BRIDGEPORT -- The Mountain East Conference has released its All-MEC Academic Teams and the Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2017 Spring Semester.
To be a member of the All-MEC Academic Team, the student-athlete must be a member of the active roster and have a grade-point average of 3.70-4.00 in the semester of their championship season. To qualify for the Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete must be a member of the active roster and post a grade point average between 3.25-3.69 in the semester of their championship season.
Over 750 student-athletes were honored by the MEC, including 339 who earned All-MEC Academic Team honors in the eight sports included. The number of honorees increased by 10 percent compared to last year.
Sports included in the spring semester are: baseball, lacrosse, men's basketball, men's tennis, men's track and field, softball, women's basketball and women's track and field.
West Virginia Wesleyan had 142 student-athletes recognized by the MEC. That was the highest number of student-athletes honored among the 12 MEC schools. Wesleyan had the most in the fall semester as well with 135.
Wesleyan had 69 student-athletes recognized on the All-MEC Academic Team requiring a 3.70-4.00 grade point average.
The breakdown of each sport with a 3.70 or higher was women's track and field (21), women's basketball (12), men's tennis (12), men's track and field (nine), baseball (six), lacrosse (five), men's basketball (three) and softball (one)
Seventy-three Wesleyan student-athletes were named to the Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll for a grade-point-average between a 3.25 and a 3.69.
The breakdown of the Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll for each sport was men's track and field (18), women's track and field (18), softball (11), baseball (seven), lacrosse (seven), men's tennis (seven), women's basketball (three) and men's basketball (two).
