Wesleyan Outlasts University of Mary in 12 innings, 2-1

WINTER HAVEN (Fla.) – It took 12 innings to get there but the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcat baseball team was able to pull out a 2-1 victory over the University of Mary Marauders today as the 'Cats continue their spring break play in Florida.

Mary scored first in the top of the third, but Wesleyan answered in their half of the third when Ryan Rado scored on a fielding error.

The game would stay tied at 1-1 until the bottom of the 12th inning.

Tre Kerns singled through the left side to start the inning and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Antonio Vega.

Following a Dominic Castello walk, Kerns stole third and scored on a fielding error by the Mary third baseman.

Wesleyan managed just three hits in the contest with Kerns getting two and Michael Logsdon getting the other one.

The Bobcats used five pitchers in the game with Chris Metrick getting the win in relief.

He tossed two innings of one hit ball while fanning two.

The win was the second in a row for the 'Cats as they improved to 4-4 on the season.

They will return to action Friday with a doubleheader against Chestnut Hill.

The first game will start at 11 a.m.
