BUCKHANNON – Hunter Rotarius (pictured) threw a complete-game four-hitter as he led his West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats to an 11-1 victory over Concord in game one of their Mountain East Conference doubleheader today at Hank Ellis Field.
Rotarius improved his record to 4-1 as he struck out two.
The 'Cats lost the nightcap though by a 5-2 score.
The split left Wesleyan with an 18-16 record overall and a 10-10 mark in the MEC.
In the opening game, Wesleyan struck first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first.
Wesleyan erupted for six runs in the bottom of the second.
Koon, Michael Logsdon and Kerns each had a RBI and Lynn had the big shot, a three-run home run.
That gave Wesleyan an 8-0 lead.
Logsdon made it 9-0 for the 'Cats when Logsdon singled home Nick Jones.
Concord ended Roatrius' shutout bid in the top of the fifth with their lone run,
Logsdon wrapped up the scoring with a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Wesleyan crushed 17 hits in the victory.
Logsdon collected four hits while Fraser had three and Jones, Kerns, Lynn and Dominic Castello each had three.
In the second outing, Logsdon gave Wesleyan a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when he tripled home Koon.
Concord scored three times in the top of the fourth to take a 3-1 advantage.
Logsdon received a bases loaded walk that brought home Greg Smith in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 3-2 game.
Concord put the game away in the top of the eighth with a pair of runs.
Nick Bader led the offense with two hits.
Brandon Stratton (2-4) suffered the loss as he went six innings and gave up three earned runs on six hits while striking out four.
The Bobcats will return to action this Saturday as they visit West Virginia State for a conference doubleheader.
First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
