John Koon Named MEC Baseball Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT -- West Virginia Wesleyan's John Koon is the Mountain East Conference Player of the Week, while Glenville State's Wesley Stauffer is the league's Pitcher of the Week.

Koon, a senior from Bridgeport, W.Va., delivered two walk-off hits for Wesleyan as the Bobcats took three of four games from UVa-Wise.

After going 2-for-3 with an RBI in the first game of the series, he blasted a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to deliver a 6-5 win for Wesleyan. He came through in the clutch again in the final game of the series with a walk-off single in an 8-7 win over the Cavs.

Stauffer, a sophomore from Orville, Ohio, earns Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time this season after a four-hit, complete game shutout against MEC South Division leader West Virginia State. He went all seven innings against the Yellow Jackets giving up four walks and striking out a pair as the Pioneers blanked WVSU, 2-0.
