Baseball 'Cats Drop 18-2 Decision to Florida Southern

LAKELAND, Fla. – It was a tough day at the old ball park for the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcat baseball team as they faced Florida Southern University in a true road game on their spring break trip.

The 'Cats dropped an 18-2 decision.

Florida Southern scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back.

They built a 13-0 lead after five innings of play.

Wesleyan dented the scoreboard in the top of the sixth when Antonio Vega scored on a fielder's choice by John Koon.

They scored again in the top of the seventh when Wyatt Adkins scored on a ground out by Lake Sankey.

Florida Southern wrapped up the scoring with three more in the seventh and two in the eighth.

Wesleyan mustered just three hits – a double by Austin Keene and singles from James Fraser and Ryan Kiser.

Hunter Rotarius suffered the loss on the mound for Wesleyan.

He started the game and went three innings, giving up five earned runs on six hits while walking five and fanning two.

Florida Southern improved to 10-6 overall.

Wesleyan (0-3) will seek to pick up their first win Monday when they play Findlay in a doubleheader starting at 9:15 a.m.
