Baseball Defeats Minnesota Duluth, 6-4

Auburndale, FLA. -- West Virginia Wesleyan picked up their first win of the season Monday as they defeated Minnesota Duluth with a score of 6-4. Sean Cliff (1-0) picked up the W for Wesleyan and Chris Metrick picked up the save, pitching two innings of scoreless ball with four strikeouts.

Wesleyan got on the board first as Wyatt Adkins scored on an error in the bottom of the first.

The Bobcats put another run on the board in the third as Antonio Vega singled, driving in Nick Grotti.

A two-run homer by Minnesota Duluth's Cory Krolikowski in the top of the fifth tied the game at 2-2.

In the sixth, Anders Brown grounded out but teammate Chris Saltzmann scored on the play. Wesleyan would respond with a double by Grotti in the bottom of the sixth that drove home Travis Renner.

With a tie game going into the seventh, the Bulldogs took the lead as a Krolikowski scored on a wild throw. But the Bobcats would put three runs on the Bulldogs in the bottom of the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Two of the Three runs came off a wild throw, scoring both Vega and Alex Skinner. The final run was scored by Eric Forbrick on a Josh Jano single.

The Bobcats will play a doubleheader this Tuesday against Minnesota-Crookston. Game times are scheduled for 2:30 P.M and 6:00 P.M.
