Anderson Named to D2CCA All-Super Region 1 First Team; Weems Second Team

BUCKHANNON – West Virginia Wesleyan College senior tailback Michael Anderson (pictured) has been named to the D2CCA All-Super Region 1 First Team for the 2016 football season as the team was announced today.

Jabari Weems, a senior defensive back, was also honored as a D2CCA All-Super Region I Second Team selection.

Late last month, Anderson was recognized as one of seven nominees from Super Region 1 for the Harlon Hill Award, which recognizes NCAA Division II football's most outstanding player.

Anderson was also named the Mountain East Conference Offensive Player of the Year and named to the All-MEC First Team.

Anderson rushed for 1,417 yards and 12 touchdowns during the 2016 season.

He led the MEC in rushing and was sixth in the country in rushing yards.

Anderson had seven 100-yard rushing games on the year, including a league-best 237 against Concord in September.

He also led Wesleyan in receptions this year with 40 and had 299 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Weems was seventh in the nation in interceptions per game with six in 10 games played and led the MEC in interceptions.

He also added 31 tackles, seven pass break-ups and two forced fumbles and fumble recoveries.

All First-Team selections are now eligible to be nominated for D2CCA All-American honors.

"I am very happy that Michael and Jabari have been recognized for the fantastic seasons they had statistically," remarked Wesleyan head coach Del Smith. "We will certainly miss them in the future and are very appreciative of their body of work here at WVWC."
