Smith Hires Keane; Announces Changes to Football Staff

BUCKHANNON -- It has been a busy off-season for head football coach Del Smith and his West Virginia Wesleyan College coaching staff.

With the departure of assistant coach, Harrison Bernstein, to Georgetown University, Smith has shuffled the staff.

Smith, himself, has moved to a more familiar side of the ball from coaching the running backs to the linebackers.

With that move, the second-year coach has announced the hiring of Tom Keane (pictured) as running backs/H's coach.

Keane comes to Wesleyan after serving in a quality control capacity working with the tight ends and special teams at Division I Florida Atlantic University.

Prior to FAU, Keane guided the running backs at Colgate University during their Patriot League championship and Division I FCS semi-final playoff run.

In addition to the hiring of Keane, Smith has made some adjustments to the existing coaching staff.

Most notably, offensive signal caller, Micheal Engle, has added the title of associate head coach.

Defensive coordinator, Dwayne Martin, has added the duties of special teams coordinator.

Offensive line coach, Tony Testa, has added the responsibility of both the recruiting and run game coordinator duties.

Both defensive line coach, Justin King, and wide receivers coach, Mark Philmore, have been elevated to full-time for the 2017 season. Philmore, has added the responsibility of Director of Operations and Creative Media.

Wesleyan will open the 2017 season on Thursday, Aug. 31 at Concord University.
