BUCKHANNON -- Coach Del Smith and his West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats look build on the momentum of last week's 20-13 upset victory at Notre Dame, hosting the nationally ranked Shepherd Rams in a noon tilt this Saturday at Cebe Ross Field
Legendary coach Monte Cater has won more football games in the state than any college coach on any level. He currently has 242 career wins at Shepherd, and 272 overall.
This year's edition of the Rams are 7-0, and currently ranked second in the country. They are sporting an offense that is averaging 46.3 points per game, and it is a balanced juggernaut. Quarterback Connor Jessop has already fired 27 touchdown passes, while running back Jabre Lolley leads the league in rushing with 850 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Wesleyan counters with a defense that is second in the conference in points allowed with 18.4 points per game. Wesleyan's defense and special teams have accounted for seven of the team's 16 touchdowns to date, and Aman Speed Jr. has returned a fumble for a touchdown in consecutive weeks.
Offensively, freshman Tra Jackson was rushed for 106 yards on 21 carries at Notre Dame, and delivered the largest day of running production for the Bobcats since the opening win at Concord. Freshman receiver Kenny Lewis Jr. has 31 catches, over a third of the team's grabs.
Wesleyan has not defeated Shepherd since the epic 45-44 game in 2011 in Buckhannon.
