Buckhannon -- The Rockefeller Center was packed with action Saturday night as the Notre Dame Falcons came to town. Going into the half Wesleyan led 31-30. The second half was full of lead changes and ultimately came down to three free throws for Notre Dame. Drew Scarberry sank all three to give the Falcons the 79-78 victory.
Every possesion proved to crucial as neither team could seem to pull away. Trading baskets for much of the game, Wesleyan took a five point lead with under a minute to play on a Kam Cooper jump shot. A late Aaron Ariri dunk brought fans to their feet and seemed to provide momentum for the Bobcats. Foul shots and late three's kept the falcons in the game. Scarberry made a three with 30 seconds to go to tie the game. In the final seconds, a controversial shooting foul on Luka Petrovic sent Notre Dame to the line and secured the victory for the Falcons.
Kyauta Taylor led Notre Dame with 23 points (8-of-15) and also tallied up four steals. Taylor and his teammates werent afraid to shoot the deep ball as they shot 28 three point field goals on the night, sinking almost half of them (13).
Wesleyan saw a terrific performance from Sophomore Dusan Vincentic, who led the team with 27 points. Vincentic was lights out from the field shooting 75% (12-of-16). Joining him in double figures were teammates Aaron Ariri (19) and Fred Brondsted (11). The Bobcats shot 62.3% (33-53) on the night and out rebounded the Falcons 32-29.
Wesleyan drops to 1-13 this season. Notre Dame improves to 4-10.
Wesleyan will take on Charleston at home on Jan. 11th.
