INSTITUTE -- West Virginia Wesleyan's Men traveled to take on West Virginia State Saturday afternoon. A balanced scoring attack led by Pat Johnson-Agwu established a early lead during the first half for the Yellow Jackets. West Virginia State would take a 52-31 lead into the half. As the second half unfolded, the Bobcats were unable to get back into striking distance and would go on to be defeated 86-68.
Both teams shot over 50% during the contest. Fast break points (24) and an edge in rebounding (38-25) helped the Yellow Jackets pull off the victory. Wesleyan continued to get strong efforts out of Aaron Ariri, Dusan Vicentic, and Marcus Larrson. Each squad would shoot their fair share beyond the arch, with Wesleyan going 6-of-17 and West Virginia State shooting 10-of-29 from three. The Yellow Jackets would score 50 of their 86 points from inside the paint, while Wesleyan added 42 points from inside.
Ariri led the Bobcats with 21 points. Luka Petrovic dished out seven assists to go along with five steals.
The Yellow Jackets were led by Johnson-Agwu who scored 19 points and snagged 8 rebounds.
Wesleyan falls to 2-14 on the year. West Virginia State improves to 8-7.
Wesleyan is back in action at Shepherd Jan. 17th.
