GLENVILLE – Glenville used a second half surge to escape with a 71-65 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan Saturday afternoon. After numerous lead changes, the Pioneers took the lead for the final time with just under three minutes remaining in the game.
Wesleyan trailed 39-33 at the half, but an 11-0 run early in the second half put them up five points with under 12 minutes to go. Glenville responded with a 9-0 run late, putting the game out of reach for the Bobcats.
Junior Fred Brondsted led Wesleyan with 17 points (6-of-16). He shot 5-of-13 from behind the arch. Teammate Kam Cooper also proved to be an impact player for the Bobcats, scoring 10 points to go along with five rebounds.
Wesleyan shot 50 percent from the field on 23-of-46 shooting.
Glenville had three players hit double digits in the scoring column. Darhius Nunn led the Pioneers with 21 points (8-of-13).
Glenville shot 55.1 percent from the field on 27-of-49 shooting.
Wesleyan falls to 2-16 for the season. Glenville rises to 3-14.
Wesleyan returns home Wednesday to take on Virginia-Wise. Tip-off scheduled for 7:30.
