BUCKHANNON -- Wesleyan welcomed in national powerhouse West Liberty for a game between the red-hot bobcats, and the always talented Hilltoppers.
With under three minutes remaining in the first half, WVWC went on a 10-4 run that brought the Bobcats within just three points. With 11:21 remaining in the game, Luka Petrovic found teammate Aaron Ariri on an alley-oop that made the score 42-47. On the next Bobcat possession, Ariri threw down a monstrous dunk that set the Rockefeller Center into a craze and seemed to bring momentum to a Bobcat squad that found themselves down only three with under 10 minutes remaining. West Liberty pulled away in the final minutes, sinking shots at the foul line to secure the victory. The Hilltoppers took the final decision, 77-66.
Ariri shot 9-of-11 and led Wesleyan with 21 points. Petrovic had a solid all-around game; scoring 15 points, grabbing nine rebounds, and dished seven assists.
The Hilltoppers got scoring from many sources, as five players ended the game with double-digits in the scoring column. Dalton Bolon scored 19 points to go along with nine rebounds to lead the team in both categories.
Wesleyan shot 23-of-64 (35.9 percent) on the night.
West Liberty shot 24-of-54 (44.4 percent) from the floor.
The loss brings the Bobcats five game winning streak to an end, leaving them 7-18 on the year. West Liberty remains with only one loss at 23-1.
Wesleyan travels to take on Wheeling Jesuit February 17th. The game is set to tip-off at 4:00 p.m.
