Men's Golf Team Takes Fourth at MEC Spring Championships

CHARLESTON -- West Virginia Wesleyan's men golf team rolled to one of their highest team finishes within the history of the Mountain East Conference on Tuesday

The Bobcats placed fourth in the MEC Spring Championships held at the Edgewood Golf Club in Sissonville.

Coach James Huber's squad rallied from fifth place to finish a stroke ahead of Wheeling Jesuit 617-618.

Wesleyan's second-day final round tally of 305 was second only to tournament winner West Liberty, who shot a team total of 295 on Monday.

West Liberty won the team title with a 591 (296-295) while Charleston was second with a 605 (295-310) and Shepherd was third with a 610 (297-313).

Bobcat Nicholas Casingal placed 13th in the 59-player field, shooting an 11-over par 153 for the tourney (77-76).

He was followed closely by a tight pack of teammates; Nick West in 14th (79-75-154), James Snavely in 17th (77-79-156), John Huggins in 21st (79-78-157), and Ryan Holcomb in 28th (84-76-160).

Mathew Iceton from West Liberty took low medalist honors with a 142 (73-69).

Viktor Pustwo of Charleston and Ryan Crabtree from Shepherd tied for second with a 146.

"I continue to be impressed with the way these guys keep working and improving their game," Huber said. "I have had several coaches remark to me and the team that our team is moving in a very good direction."

The men's golf team will return to action April 18-19 at the Ohio Valley Spring Challenge in Belpre, Ohio.
