Men's Golfers Fourth After Day One at Wally Edgell Championship

CANAAN VALLEY - West Virginia Wesleyan's men's golf team sits in fourth place after day one at the Wally Edgell Collegiate Championship. There are 13 teams in the field, including eight from the Mountain East Conference in the tournament being held at Canaan Valley Resort. 

Wesleyan shot a nine-over par 293 on the par-71 layout in the historic valley. The University of Charleston holds the team lead at 275, followed by Davis & Elkins at 284. 

"Our guys took advantage of a lot of opportunities on the course today," Bobcat assistant coach Sidney Crist said. "They are starting to put it together and going into tomorrow with a lot of confidence."

Nick West and James Snavely lead a tight pack of Bobcats just outside the top ten of the 70-player individual field.

The pair each fired a 72 to settle into a tie for 13th.

They were followed by Colin Chapman in 20th with a 74 and Nicholas Casingal in 26th with a 75. Zach Chapman is in 49th with a 78. 

Charleston's Justin Westveer and David Scragg led the way after day one with both golfers shooting a 68.

Final round action tees off early Tuesday morning at Canaan Valley.
