URBANA, Ohio – West Virginia Wesleyan recorded their biggest win of the year as they went on the road and upset No. 15 Urbana today by a 1-0 score in a Mountain East Conference contest.
It was Wesleyan's first win over a nationally-ranked team this season.
The win also secured a spot for the Bobcats in the upcoming MEC Tournament.
The MEC tournament field is now set with Notre Dame, Charleston, Urbana and Wesleyan. The only seed that is set in stone as of right now is Wesleyan will be the fourth seed.
Wesleyan already has a victory over Notre Dame from earlier this season.
The lone goal of the game came in the 81st minute when Jens Demul (pictured) scored on a penalty kick.
It was the senior defender's fifth goal of the season.
Urbana had a 16-10 lead in shots and a 5-4 advantage in shots-on-goal.
Wesleyan keeper Alessandro Armenia saved all five shots as he posted his fourth shutout of the year.
The win improved Wesleyan to 9-7 overall and 7-5 in the MEC.
Urbana dropped to 10-3-1 overall and 7-3 in the MEC.
The contest day was the final regular season conference contest for Wesleyan.
They will go outside the conference and meet Ohio Valley on the road this Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
