CHARLESTON -- West Virginia Wesleyan's dramatic post season run ended Saturday night in Charleston. Coach Gavin Donaldson's crew fell 1-0 to the University of Charleston in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Robin Lapert scored the evening's lone goal in the game's 36th minute. His sixth goal of the season came on an assist from Kieran Bywater. The match was played at UC's Schoenbaum Stadium.
Wesleyan was able to apply some pressure at times in the contest, but was out shot by the Golden Eagles 9-4. UC also led in corner kicks 5-1.
Wesleyan's NCAA appearance was the final act in what was a tremendous four-game series with the Golden Eagles on the season. UC won the season series 2-1-1, but each contest had high drama and physical play. The season series included a 0-0 tie in Buckhannon, and a 2-1 WVWC victory in the MEC Tourney.
Wesleyan ends the season with a 12-6-3 mark, and a Mountain East Conference Tournament title on the resume. Charleston improves to 17-1-2, and they advance to next week's NCAA Sweet 16.
