BUCKHANNON -- Sophomore Julian Morassi was named the Mountain East Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week for his recent efforts in the pool.
Morassi (Aalen, Germany) picked up a pair of wins in a dual meet against Fairmont State. He won the 200 free with a time of 1:45.75, and followed that up with a win in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:01.80. He also had a split of 22.06 in his leg on the 200-meter relay.
Earlier in the season, against Davis & Elkins College, Morassi swam to victory in both the 200 free (1:45.27) and 500 free (4:59.57). He also swam a leg on the 400 free relay (3:30.22) as well as the 400 medley relay (3:43.42), capturing victory in both.
When asked about Morassi, head coach April Gitzen stated, "Julian is an extremely coachable athlete. He is also probably one of the smartest athletes I've coached. His ability to break down a race plan and execute it is simply perfect. Julian is having one of his best years swimming and I look forward to what he will accomplish next week at the conference meet."
The Bobcat Swim teams will head to Christiansburg, Virginia for the MEC/GMAC Swimming Conference Championships beginning February 14th.
