CHARLESTON -- The top two seeds will meet for the 2016 Mountain East Conference men's tennis title on Sunday after West Virginia Wesleyan and West Liberty earned victories on Saturday afternoon.
The Bobcats handed UVa-Wise a 5-0 defeat, while the Hilltoppers defeated Charleston, 5-2.
Top-seeded Wesleyan swept through the doubles matches and closed things out in singles with straight-set wins by Timothy Stephens at No. 4 singles and Andre Fernandes (pictured) at No. 6 singles.
Second-seeded West Liberty avenged its only conference loss of the season to the Golden Eagles, who were one of the three co-champions in the league.
The Hilltoppers handled UC in all three doubles matches to go ahead 3-0. Baptiste Perrin also avenged his only conference loss of the year with a convincing win over Alec Foote, 6-1, 6-0. UC's James Gammell and Jake Lorenz salvaged wins for UC at No. 2 and No. 5 singles, respectively, but Martin Moncayo sealed the match for WLU with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles.
West Virginia Wesleyan and West Liberty will play tomorrow for the championship starting at noon.
