Tennis 'Cats Play Well in Day One of UC Invitational

CHARLESTON -- Six singles entries and one doubles team remain in contention at the UC Invitational Friday evening.

The Bobcats will take the court Staurday morning with Nathan Sabate (#1 Flight), Alexander Lyudinovskiy (#3), Pedro Nassar and Anthony Rames (#4), Thomas McIntosh (pictured) (#5), and Pierre-Olivier Bedard (#6) competing in their respective semifinals. McIntosh and Marc Van Den Boom are also into the semis in the B Flight doubles.

"Overall, it was not a bad day for us," said head coach Marc Walters of the results. "The younger guys were exposed to the next level of play and some of the conference stalwarts, while the returning guys had a chance to battle for rankings points."

Doubles was a bit of a struggle, however.

"We are just a step behind the pace rght now in doubles," explained Walters. "Our guys competed great, and we battled back all day, but we didn't play big points as well as we need to to finish in clutch situations. Once we take away those loose points and stop helping the other team, we'll be fine."

Play continues at the Charleston YMCA with doubles at 9 a.m. Saturday. The tournament is set to conclude by 7 p.m. and admission is free.
