WILSON, N.C. -- In a match that was a reversal of last year's contest, Barton College swept the last three singles matches to claim a 5-4 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan in a non-conference tilt.
Jacobo Rendon and Elimberto Gaydon traded service breaks throughout the third set before Gaydon held in the final game of a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 win that clinched the team match for Barton.
The Bobcats (2-4) had gotten singles wins in straight sets from Ramon Rodriguez and Alexander Lyudinovskiy (pictured) to extend their lead to 4-2, but the Bulldogs shut the door in the final three matches to move their record to 8-3 on the year.
The host Bulldogs fell behind 2-1 after Wesleyan rallied to win #2 doubles in a tiebreaker after the team's traded points at the #1 and #3 spots.
Bobcats Ramon Rodriguez and Rendon grabbed an 8-6 decision at #3 right after Ferran Berga and Nathan Sabate lost a hard fought match 8-5 at #1 doubles.
That left the freshman tandem of Lukas Laipold and Pierre-Olivier Bedard in the deciding match, and the duo rallied from a 3-6 break down to take a 9-8 (7-4) victory.
Wesleyan will travel to Gastonia on Tuesday for scrimmages against Belmont Abbey College with both the varsity and reserve teams at 3 p.m.
