Tennis 'Cats Fall to Fairmont State, 5-4

FAIRMONT – The West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcat tennis team dropped a key regional and Mountain East Conference contest Thursday afternoon when they lost a close 5-4 decision to the Fairmont State Falcons.

Wesleyan trailed by a 2-1 margin following doubles play.

The No. 3 duo of Ramon Rodriguez and Pedro Nassar won an 8-3 decision for the lone doubles victory.

The Bobcats earned singles win at No. 2 as Lukas Laipold defeated Micah Hornak (6-3, 6-1), No. 4 Jacobo Rendon bested Matias Higueras (6-3, 6-0) and No. 5 Alexander Lyudinovskiy downed Dillon Early in three sets (5-7, 6-3, 7-5).

Fairmont State improved to 11-7 overall and 4-0 in the MEC.

Wesleyan dropped to 5-6 overall and 0-1 in the MEC.

The Bobcats will play Shaw University Saturday at 2 p.m.
