WHEELING – The 16th-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan softball team recorded two more shutouts as they swept a Mountain East Conference doubleheader on the road against the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals Wednesday evening.
The Lady 'Cats took game one by a 6-0 score and game two by a 7-0 score.
It was the 18th and 19th shutouts of the season for Wesleyan.
The wins improved Wesleyan to 37-5 overall and 19-3 overall.
In game one, Hannah Vet twirled all seven innings to improve her record to 14-2. She gave up just three hits, didn't walk a batter and struck out four.
The Lady 'Cats put the game away with a three-run seventh inning.
Wesleyan had 10 hits in the contest with Brooklyn Waddell, Honce, Gore and Bruce each getting two.
In the second game, Sayaka Foley (14-2) went the distance allowing just four hits while fanning six.
Wesleyan used the long ball to get on the scoreboard in the nightcap.
Bruce and Ashley Hurey each hit a solo home run in the top of the third to treat the Lady Bobcats to a 2-0 lead.
Bruce singled home Becca Oneto in the top of the fourth to make it a 3-0 contest.
Hurey hit a sacrifice fly that scored Gregory in the top of the sixth to make it a 4-0 game.
Wesleyan iced the game with a three-run seventh.
Krista Waggoner, Gore and Gregory each had a RBI for the Lady 'Cats in the inning.
Wesleyan had 12 hits in the game-two win.
Waddell, Gore, Gregory and Bruce each had two hits.
Wesleyan will return to action this Saturday when they host West Virginia State in a league doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
