Lady 'Cats Advance to MEC Title Game After Win Over UVa.-Wise

SALEM, Va.Hannah Vet (pictured) pitched her 10th shutout of the season as the West Virginia Wesleyan softball team earned a 2-0 victory over UVa.-Wise in the winner's bracket finals game today of the Mountain East Conference tournament at the Moyer Sports Complex.

Vet improved her record to 23-3 and she threw her 21st complete game allowing just five hits and one walk while striking out four.

UVa.-Wise put a runner at third base in three different innings but was never able to dent the scoreboard.

Jessica Rodriguez supplied all the offense in the bottom of the sixth inning when she hit a two-run single to center field that scored Olivia Gore and Brooklyn Waddell.

Wesleyan managed just four hits in the game with Rodriguez, Waddell, Krista Waggoner and Brittani Bible each getting one apiece.

The win propelled Wesleyan into the MEC championship game tomorrow at 1 p.m.

It will be a rematch with UVa.-Wise who staved off elimination with a 3-1 victory over Shepherd in the loser's bracket final.

Wesleyan needs just one win in the double-elimination tournament for the championship while UVa.-Wise will have to defeat the Lady Bobcats twice for the MEC title.

Today's game was the first time the two teams have met this season as their regular-season doubleheader was wiped out by the weather and was not made up.
