Waddell Named MVP of MEC All-Tournament Softball Team

SALEM, Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan placed four players on the Mountain East Conference All-Tournament Team following their 3-0 victory over UVa.-Wise for the 2017 MEC Championship.

Senior second baseman Brooklyn Waddell (pictured) was named the MVP of the tournament.

The Buckhannon native hit .375 (6-for-16) while scoring two runs and knocking in seven during their five-game run. That included a five RBI game against Urbana in the tournament opener.

Joining Waddell on the All-Tournament Team were designated player Krista Waggoner and pitchers Sayaka Foley and Hannah Vet.

Waggoner hit .461 during the tournament (6-for-13) while scoring one run and knocking in two.

Foley went 2-0 with one save in three appearances. She threw 12 2/3 innings and allowed three earned runs on 12 hits while walking just one and striking out 13. She had a 1.66 ERA during the tournament.

Vet was 2-1 with one save in four appearances. She tossed 25 1/3 innings and gave up nine earned runs on 23 hits while walking four and fanning eight. She had a 2.48 ERA during the tournament.

Wesleyan (44-7) will now advance to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Tournament.
