BUCKHANNON – West Virginia Wesleyan's Softball team went 2-1 in the Salem Virginia Tournament this past weekend topping Edinboro 6-5 on Friday then falling to Indiana (Pa.) 4-3 and beating Bloomsburg 9-1 on Saturday.
During Friday's match up against Edinboro, starting off in the bottom of the 2nd Kasey Robinson singled, advanced to second on the throw, Megan Magsamen advanced to third on the throw and Krista Waggoner advanced and scored on an error. In the bottom of the 4th Brittani Bible doubled to center field bringing home Krista Waggoner. Makayla McElwayne reached on a fielder's choice, Kasey Robinson got out at second Magsamen advanced to third and Bible scored. Madison Casto up at bat, singled to left field advancing McElwayne to second while Magsamen scored. Continuing into the bottom of the 5th Magsamen flied out to infield, Brianna Ross advanced to third and Arianna Smoot scored. Then, Robinson singled to center field bringing in Ross for the final run.
In Saturday's win against Bloomsburg, in the top of the 3rd Waggoner doubled bringing in Lauryn King scored. Following in the top of the 4th Kennedy Cowart doubled to left field bringing home Magsamen and Morgan Bruce. In the top of the 5th Waggoner singled to left field while Sara Scoone scored increasing the lead 4-0. Brining in the final inning at the top of the 7th, Robinson walked, Kelley Bourne advanced to second, Waggoner advanced to third and Smoot scored. Morgan Bruce at bat hit a grand slam bringing home Robinson, Bourne and Waggoner ending the game 9-1.
The Bobcats increase their record to 7-6. They will return to the field at Fairmont on Saturday starting at 1:00pm ad 3:00pm.
