COLUMBUS – The West Virginia Wesleyan women's basketball team ran into a juggernaut today in the form of the Ohio Dominican Panthers in a non-conference outing.
The Lady Bobcats dropped a 92-53 decision to the Panthers, who are ranked 10th in the Midwest Regional rankings.
Wesleyan trailed by a 6-0 margin before Rachel Vandertoolen put the Lady Bobcats on the scoreboard with a lay-up at the 7:28 mark of the first quarter.
Ohio Dominican took control of the game going on a 12-6 run to take an 18-8 lead with 3:14 showing on the first-quarter clock.
The Panthers led at the end of the first quarter by a 30-12 score.
That made it a 30-18 game with 2:21 gone in the second quarter.
Ohio Dominican outscored Wesleyan by a 23-8 margin the rest of the quarter to take a 53-26 advantage into the break.
The Panthers added to their lead in the third quarter outscoring Wesleyan by seven.
Ohio Dominican took a 74-40 lead into the final 10 minutes of action.
The Panthers took the final quarter by a 19-12 margin.
Wesleyan put just one play into double digits as Vadertoolen scored a team-high 15 points.
Stewart scored nine points while Tara Goldman tallied eight.
Wesleyan was 19-for-49 from the field for 38.9 percent.
The Lady Bobcats were outrebounded by a 48-24 margin.
Ohio Dominican improved to 4-2 on the season while Wesleyan dropped to 2-2 overall.
Wesleyan will stay on the road as they return to action this Wednesday at UVa.-Wise.
The conference road game will start at 5:30 p..m.
