Women's Basketball Falls in Season Opener at IUP

INDIANA (PA) -- Coach Vicky Bullett's West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats opened their season Saturday facing one of the regions toughest teams in the MEC/PSAC Challenge. After playing Indiana (Pa.) tight in the first half, Wesleyan eventually bowed to the Crimson Hawks 80-52.

Indiana won the PSAC in 2017, and posted a 24-7 record. Several key players off that squad are back, and their experience showed in the second half against a young Lady Bobcat squad. IUP enters the season ranked #20 in the nation.

Wesleyan led 17-15 after one quarter, and was still within striking distance for much of the game. The Hawks led 32-28 at the half and 50-43 going into the final period. IUP closed the game with a 20-2 run to pull away.

Lana Long and Mari Stewart led the Wesleyan scoring with 11 and 10 points respectively. Stewart posted a team high 10 rebounds, with Tyra Hughes recording a team high three assists.

Lauren Wolosik led the Crimson attack with 17 points.

Wesleyan is back in action in Sunday's Day Two session of the tournament. The Lady Bobcats face Mansfield in a 1:00 tip off.
