Women Lose in Last Minute to West Virginia State

BUCKHANNON- West Virginia Wesleyan Women's Basketball team lost to West Virginia State during Saturday's competition 55-54. 

Down by three leading into the fourth quarter the Bobcats fought for a two point lead with 2:32 left in the competition after Mari Stewart hit a free throw. With 49 seconds remaining on the clock Wesleyan turned the ball over and fouled. The Yellow Jackets hit both free throws to tie the game 54-54. 15 seconds remaining on the game clock, the Bobcats turned the ball over putting West Virginia State back at the free throw line. The Yellow Jackets hit one free throw increasing their lead 55-54. The Bobcats called a time out and missed a shot at the buzzer sealing the win for the Yellow Jackets. 

Mari Stewart let the Bobcats with a double-double scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds. Brittany Stawovy added 12 points shooting 40% from behind the arc and Stacy Remer grabbed 10 rebounds.

The Bobcats fall to an overall record of 5-11 and 3-7 in the MEC. The team will return to action on Thursday at Shepherd for a 5:30 tip off.
