Parkersburg, W.Va. -- The Wesleyan Women's Golf team claimed first place out of eight teams this past weekend at the Ohio Valley Invitational held in Parkersburg, W.Va.. The Bobcats were able to build on a first day,one stroke, 333 score and finish with an 11 stroke victory.
The team was, again, lead by junior Kayla Linger and sophomore Becky Gossard as both would come in tied with a 36-hole 156 for the overall individual low medalist along with Glenville State's, Sammi Moore. Moore was able to complete the sudden death victory, but the 'Cats would have the final say as they would post a team best 310 second day score and finish the tournament with a 643.
"This is such a testament to these girls and their hard work," head coach Nick Patella said. "My Graduate Assistant, Jennifer Smith, has taken a lead role with the them and the girls have responded beautifully. We stress how important TEAM is in an individual sport. I know, both, Kayla and Becky wanted that overall low medalist, but know they are much more satisfied with a team victory."
This is the first victory for the Bobcats on the year. They will have a week off to prepare before the MEC finals at Glade Springs October 14th and 15th culminate the Fall season.
