ERIE, Pa. -- West Virginia Wesleyan's women's golf team placed 17th out of 21 teams at the rain-shortened Evann Parker Invitational. The event was hosted by Mercyhurst College at the Lake View Country Club in Erie, Pa.
Gannon University won the team title with a team score of 320.
Wesleyan placed third out of five Mountain East Conference teams in the event. They finished behind the University of Charleston and Urbana, but defeated MEC foes Fairmont State and West Liberty.
Lady Bobcats' Katie Casey and Sandra Brink tied for 39th place out of 109 finishers. Each player tallied a score of 89 in the round, and they were followed closely by teammate Becca Davis who shot a 92.
Keenan Moreta was the final scoring Wesleyan player with a score of 124.
"The ladies played hard, and we were able to work on some things that they have been needing," remarked head coach James Huber. "When we practiced Thursday, the greens we smooth and fast, but in Friday's round they had the aeration holes and they were really bumpy...everybody had to play them, so that is not an excuse, but it seemed to effect out women with their putting."
Wesleyan's women will be back in action next Saturday at the MEC Fall Invitational at the Edgewood Country Club.
