BELPRE, Ohio – Katie Casey shot a second-round best 78 to finish in a third-place tie in the Ohio Valley University Women's Invitational at the Oxbow Golf Course here Tuesday and Wednesday.
Casey's 78 tied the best round of day one as well.
Following a rough first day after shooting a 90, Casey trimmed 12 strokes of her game to end up with a 168.
Teammate Sandra Brink was right behind Casey with a tie for fifth-place.
Brink fired a two-day total of 171 (87-84).
"Katie had one of the biggest day two improvement of anyone which propelled her to finish to a tie for third place finish," remarked head coach James Huber. "Sandra was a little more consistent with some improvement day two and finished tied for fifth"
For their efforts, both Casey and Brink were named to the All-Tournament Team which was awarded to the top seven players.
Rounding out the Wesleyan line-up was Becca Davis who placed 17th with a 182 (93-89), Keenan Moreta who had a personal best 222 (114-108) placing 32nd, Amanda Clifford landing 37th (134-138) and Katarina Pesic-Vidic taking 38th (147-131).
Natalie Jornet from Concord won the individual title with a 163 (82-81).
Wesleyan placed fifth among seven teams with a 743 (384-359).
"Once again day two was much better and each golfer showed themselves that they really can play better golf," Huber stated. "We have done this all year."
UVa.-Wise won the team title with a 712 while Malone University was second with a 714.
The OVU Invitational concluded the spring season for the women.
"These ladies have worked hard to improve their game and I see greater results next season," concluded Huber.
