Buckhannon, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcat Lacrosse team was back in action Sunday afternoon as they hosted the St. Vincent College Bearcats at Cebe Ross Field on Senior Day. The Bearcats topped Wesleyan 17-10 on the afternoon dropping the Bobcats record to 4-10 for the season.
The Bearcats would not waste much time hitting the scoreboard scoring the first three goals of the game but the Bobcats would storm back as Jessica Hardman scored the first Bobcat goal before seniors Kaitlyn Denby, Kelly Steen, and Jocelyn Prescott would all score giving Wesleyan the 4-3 lead with just over 17 minutes left in the first half. St. Vincent, however, would answer with a run of their own, reclaiming the lead 11-7 by halftime.
It was truly the mid-second half effort that propelled the Bearcats to their victory after Wesleyan's Emily Noel drew the 'Cats closer at 11-8. Led by Kaley Burkhardt's four goal effort, the Bearcats would reel off five straight scores in just over six minutes to close the door on the Bocats.
The final score would read 17-10 Bearcats, but a much improved and exciting Bobcat team would offer, at times, the 9-2 Bearcats more than they could handle. Wesleyan still has one remaining home game against the Notre Dame, Saturday, April 26th at 12:00pm.
