Lacrosse Team Preparing For Season Opener

BUCKHANNON – First-year head coach Hannah Lively and her 2017 West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats continue to prepare for their upcoming season which arrives in just 10 days.

The Lady Bobcats will open their regular season Saturday, Feb. 25 at Catawba.

Wesleyan has had a busy preseason already with three exhibition matches.

Two weekends ago in Pittsburgh in a pair of exhibitions, they played the University of Pittsburgh Club Team and Indiana (Pa.) University at Pitt's indoor facility.

Then this past Saturday, they hosted Alderson Broaddus University at Cebe Ross Field and dropped a 12-8 decision.

Scoring the goals in that game were Hannah Antonelli, Kim Lubic and Natalie Schaffner with two apiece and Samantha Pappas (pictured) and Darla Quevedo each getting one apiece.

In the net, Alexus Bonner made nine saves.

"We are starting to mesh better," remarked Lively. "Everyone is playing to the strength of their teammates."

Wesleyan will have one more tune-up before the regular season starts.

They will host Potomac State next Thursday, Feb. 23 at 5 p.m. in their final exhibition of the season.

Lively said she expecting a solid effort from her Lady Bobcats against Potomac State.

"I want everything to click," she remarked. "I want all the effort in the scrimmages and practices to click. We need to be flawless for our season opener."
