ELKINS – The West Virginia Wesleyan lacrosse team doubled up the homestanding Davis & Elkins Senators tonight by a 16-8 score in non-conference action at Nuttall Field
Kim Lubic (pictured) put Wesleyan on the board early with an unassisted goal just 28 seconds into the match.
Davis & Elkins scored the next two, but Darla Quevedo scored two unanswered to return the lead back to Wesleyan at 3-2 with 12:37 gone from the clock.
Davis & Elkins tied the game at 3-3 with a goal at the 16:29 mark, but Wesleyan controlled play for the next 10 minutes scoring five times.
Duvall scored again and Natalie Schaffner found the back of the net to cap off the run and stake Wesleyan to an 8-3 lead.
Davis & Elkins tallied the last two goals of the half as the score stood at 8-5 at the intermission.
The two teams traded goals to begin the second half before Wesleyan went on a 6-0 run.
Scoring the goals during the scoring spree were Seager with two, Schaffner with two, Lubic with one and Samantha Pappas with one.
That treated Wesleyan to a 15-6 lead with 14 minutes remaining.
Davis & Elkins scored two straight before Schaffner scored the last goal of the game on a free position shot.
Schaffner led the offense with four goals while Lubic and Seage each had three apiece.
Wesleyan owned a 35-13 advantage in shots-in-goal.
The Lady 'Cats used two goalies during the game.
Wesleyan improved to 3-8 on the season.
Davis & Elkins dropped to 0-8.
The Lady 'Cats will be back in action this Saturday as they face the University of Charleston at 11 a.m.
