WISE, Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan lacrosse team wrapped up their regular season on the road today against the UVa.-Wise Cavaliers in a Mountain East Conference clash.
The Lady Bobcats came up short in a 19-8 decision.
Wesleyan closed out their regular season with a 2-3 MEC mark and a 4-10 overall record.
While still unofficial at this point, it appears Wesleyan will make the MEC Tournament for a third straight year. They will be the fourth seed and potentiallly play top seed Wheeling Jesuit.
UVa.-Wise though scored the next eight goals to take an 8-1 lead with 13 minutes gone in the first half.
The two teams traded a pair of goals over the next five minutes.
Maria Seager and Lubic scored during that stretch for the Lady Bobcats as that closed the score to 10-3.
Lubic then found the net twice in a 90-second period as that shrunk the UVa.-Wise lead to 10-5.
UVa.-Wise closed out the half with a goal to take an 11-5 lead at the intermission.
The Cavaliers scored the first goal of the second half to increase their lead to 12-5.
Madison Duvall countered with a goal on a free position shot at the 20:52 mark to make it a 12-6 game.
Wesleyan couldn't get any closer than six goals as UVa.-Wise scored the next three for a 15-6 advantage.
Caitlyn Baicar ended the run with a goal on a free position shot at the 13:38 mark to close the deficit to 15-7, but UVa.-Wise ended the game scoring four of the final five goals.
The lone goal for Wesleyan in the final 10 minutes belonged to Schaffner on a free position shot.
Wesleyan trailed in shots-on-goal by a 36-15 margin.
UVa.-Wise improved to 11-4 overall and 3-1 in the MEC.
The MEC tournament will get underway next Friday.
