Barber, Ramirez Score as Lady Bobcats Beat FSU, 2-0

BUCKHANNON – Freshman Haelly Ramirez (pictured) had her coming out party tonight as a West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat as they battled the Fairmont State University Falcons in a Mountain East Conference outing at Culpepper Stadium.

Prior to the game, Ramirez sang a beautiful rendition of the national anthem.

Then on the pitch, she put the icing on the cake as she scored Wesleyan's second goal in their 2-0 victory.

Ramirez  played a rebound following a shot by Emily Knight and found the back of the beating Fairmont State keeper Shawna Graham.

The goal, her first of her collegiate career, occurred in the 66th minute.

Wesleyan took early control of the game as they scored in just the third minute of action.

Audrey Barber played a cross from Natalie Prater and scored from about 15 yards in front of the net.

The Fairmont State offense was completely smothered by Wesleyan as they failed to get a shot or a shot-on-goal attempt off.

That made it easy for Wesleyan keeper Ashlee Schumacher who was making her first collegiate start in place of Chelsea Hubner.

Wesleyan on the other hand launched 24 shots and put 10 of them on goal.

Graham made eight saves in the net for Fairmont State.

The win improved Wesleyan to 9-1-3 overall and 8-1-3 in the MEC.

They will play in their biggest game of the season as they travel to Notre Dame College this Sunday.

Wesleyan has played one extra game than Charleston and Notre Dame who are first and third respectively in the MEC standings. They are currently one point behind league leading Charleston and one point ahead of third place Notre Dame.

The game will kick-off at 1 p.m.
