SHEPHERDSTOWN – It took 97 minutes for someone to find the back of the net when the West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats took to the road to battle Shepherd University in a Mountain East Conference outing Thursday afternoon.
Fortunately for the Lady Bobcats, it was Wesleyan that scored in that 97th minute of overtime soccer.
It was the first goal of the season for the junior forward.
Wesleyan owned a huge 20-9 margin in shots and a 6-3 lead in shots-on-goals.
Wesleyan keeper Chelsea Hubner turned away all three shots she faced as she posted her ninth shutout of the season.
The win was key for the Lady Bobcats as they leapfrogged Notre Dame back into second place and are now one point behind the University of Charleston.
Wesleyan does have two games in hand in the conference on Notre Dame and one on Charleston.
Wesleyan is now 10-2-3 overall and 9-2-3 in the MEC.
They will play again this Sunday at Urbana and then will wrap up the regular season this Wednesday at home against West Liberty.
