No. 10 LBC Earns Huge Home Win Against Notre Dame, 1-0

BUCKHANNON – In a battle for Mountain East Conference supremacy, the No. 10 ranked West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats battled the Notre Dame College Falcons today at Culpepper Stadium.

Both teams entered the game unbeaten in conference play as Wesleyan was 8-0 and Notre Dame was 7-0-1 and both teams also entered the contest ranked in the Atlantic Region as Wesleyan is second while Notre Dame is sixth.

Wesleyan came out victorious in this high-stakes battle with a 1-0 win.

The lone goal came early in the contest when Emily Knight struck a ball from the far post to the back of the net on the near side just a few yards out. 

The goal came in the eighth minute.

It was Knight's team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Wesleyan's defense and the tandem of Ashlee Schumacher and Chelsea Hubner in the net made that one-goal lead hold up.

The Lady Bobcats owned a 13-6 lead in shots and a 7-5 margin in shots-on-goal.

Schumacher started in net and played the first half turning away four shots.

Hubner made one save in the final 45 minutes of the game.

Wesleyan held a 4-2 lead in corner kicks.

The Lady Bobcats were guilty of just three fouls while Notre Dame was called for six.

Notre Dame dropped to 7-2-1 overall and 7-1-1 in the MEC.

Wesleyan improved to 10-0-1 overall and 9-0 in the league.

The two teams will play again in South Euclid, Ohio on Sunday, Oct. 22.

The Lady Bobcats will return to action this Friday when they host Shepherd at Culpepper Stadium.

The MEC contest will begin at 7 p.m.
