Wesleyan Tennis Programs Continue To Shine In Classroom

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced their 2016 Academic awards recently and West Virginia Wesleyan was well represented among the nation's top tennis scholars.

Both the men's and women's programs were named ITA All-Academic Teams for the fourth consecutive year. The Lady Bobcats again topped the Wesleyan athletic department with a 3.748 GPA (grade-point-average) while the men's program tallied a 3.471 team GPA.

Teams must compile a minimum of a 3.2 cumulative GPA for the two previous semesters while an individual needs a minimum of a 3.5 GPA to earn the accolade.

Nationally, Wesleyan was one of 85 women's programs and 60 men's programs to receive the team honor this past season.

Other Mountain East Conference members earning the team award included Fairmont State (women), West Virginia State (women) and West Liberty State (men and women).

The entire Lady Bobcat roster, a total of eight players, earned the All-Academic Individual Award, while nine Bobcats made the list.

The women's team finished 9-9 overall last year and fourth in the MEC with a 4-3 record. They graduated just on starter a year ago.

The men's team compiled a 19-6 record and won a share of the MEC title with a 6-1 conference record. The Bobcats capped their season off with a 10th consecutive NCAA tournament appearance. The entire roster returns for the Bobcats heading into the fall season.
