Lady 'Cats Drop 3-0 Decision to West Virginia State

INSTITUTE – Things didn't go as well as head coach Ashley Ziegle had hoped for when her West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats faced off with the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets in a Mountain East Conference affiar here tonight.

The Lady 'Cats dropped a 3-0 decision (25-20, 25-17, 25-16).

Things started off well for the Lady Bobcats as Wesleyan took an early 9-4 lead in the opener and still led by 19-17 score late in the match.

The Yellow Jackets though took eight of the final nine points for the 25-20 win.

Wesleyan never had the lead in the second set, but was only down by an 18-15 score before West Virginia State pulled away late.

The final set belonged to West Virginia State as Wesleyan fell behind early by a 16-4 score.

Hannah King and Stacie Baumann each had eight kills for Wesleyan while Paulina Nottingham had 21 assists.

Nottingham also had the lone ace for Wesleyan.

Kirsty Lawrence led the team with eight digs.

West Virginia State improved to 1-2 in the MEC and 2-11 overall.

Wesleyan dropped to 0-2 in the MEC as 3-11 overall.

The Lady Bobcats will return to action this Saturday with a tri-match at the University of Charleston.

They will play Charleston 1 p.m. and then Malone University at 3 p.m.
