ELKINS – Head coach Nancy Wheeler's West Virginia Wesleyan volleyball team recorded a key non-conference road win Tuesday night, taking a four-set win at local rival Davis & Elkins.
They defeated the GMAC squad 25-17, 19-25, 25-20, 25-18.
After the Senators had squared the match at one set apiece, Wheeler's troops delivered a strong finish to the third set and gained control of the match. They were able to maintain separation through the final stages of the final set.
Defense spearheaded the workmanlike performance, as the Lady Bobcats had four different players with double figure digs. Hannah Bradford and Katlyn Buckland each tallied 14 while had Alexis McCollum 12 and Emily Doyle collected 10.
Hicks led the defense at the net, registering seven blocks, with King adding four.
Alivia McDaniel posted a team high three service aces.
"They executed well tonight," remarked Wheeler. "They played "fearless", I am quite pleased with our progress thus far. We talked about competing on each and every ball and they did just that tonight. Credit to D&E for having a agood team and program, it was an exciting match!!
The win was a reversal of fortunes for the Lady Bobcats as they dropped a 3-0 decision to D&E back on Sept. 1 in the Edinboro Tournament.
Wesleyan improved to 5-10 overall. Davis & Elkins fell to 4-9.
Coach Wheeler's squad gets back to their MEC schedule next Tuesday night, hosting Glenville State at 7 p.m.
