Volleyball 'Cats Tumble to Charleston in Straight Sets

CHARLESTON -- West Virginia Wesleyan College saw their four-game winning streak in volleyball come to a close Saturday night at the University of Charleston in a 3-0 defeat in Mountain East Conference action.

The Lady Bobcats of first year head coach Nancy Wheeler battled the Golden Eagles close in each of the first two sets, but fell 25-20, 25-20 and 25-15.

Charleston remains undefeated in league play at 5-0 while they are 9-8 overall.

Wesleyan remains above .500 in the MEC at 3-2 while they are 7-11 overall.

Charleston never led by more than six points in either of the first two sets, but the Lady Bobcats could never materialize a surge to breakthrough the Eagle advantage.

Charleston gained some momentum in the third set and pulled away in the matches' later stages.

Wesleyan's offense was led by Hannah King with 13 kills and Katlyn Buckland with 22 assists.

Emily Doyle and Alexis McCollum led in digs with 14 and 10 respectively. Ebonie Hicks recorded a team high three blocks.

Coach Wheeler's squad hopes to start a new winning streak Tuesday when they host Salem International in a non-conference match.

Wesleyan defeated Salem International by a 3-0 score four weeks ago in the Concord Classic.

The match will take place at Rockefeller Center at 7 p.m.
