BUCKHANNON – It was a tough night for the West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat volleyball team in their homecoming match with the visiting West Liberty Hilltoppers in a Mountain East Conference outing at Rockefeller Center.
The Lady Bobcats had won six of their last eight, but dropped a 3-0 decision to West Liberty – 25-15, 25-23 and 25-13.
Wesleyan fell behind by an 8-0 score and never recovered in set one.
The Lady Bobcats got off to a fast start in the second set as they grabbed a 10-6 lead.
A kill by Leah Blend kept the Lady Bobcats ahead, at 18-15, but it was all West Liberty after that as they outscored Wesleyan by a 10-5 margin the rest of the way for the two-point win.
West Liberty raced out to a 12-2 advantage in the third set en route to their 12-point victory.
Katlyn Buckland had a team-high 15 digs.
Bradford had a game-high 22 digs.
West Liberty improved to 4-3 in the MEC and 13-9 overall.
Wesleyan dropped to 3-3 in the MEC and 8-12 overall.
Wesleyan will be right back at it in the morning as they face Wheeling Jesuit at 10 a.m. in Rockefeller Center.
Wheeling Jesuit is currently in first place in the MEC with a perfect 5-0 league record while they are 14-4 overall.
