Cross Country Women Take 16th at Greater Louisville Classic

LOUISVILLE – The West Virginia Wesleyan women's cross country team finished 16th in a crowded field of 48 teams today in the Greater Louisville Classic.

Sydney Pineault was the top Lady Bobcat performer placing 30th among 400 runners with a time of 18:57.28

Joanna Johnston had the other top 100 finish for Wesleyan as she was 77th with a time of 19:33.73.

Rounding out the rest of the Lady Bobcats who scored were Rachael Englund in 101st (19:46.80), Baylee Summers in 106th (19:48.70) and Emma Harrison in 126th (20:01.40).

Two others placed in the top 200 as Lexi Beach was 193rd (20:43.92) and Laura Geldmaker running 200th (20:49.51)

Grand Valley State won the event with 144 points while Shawnee State was second with 199 points

Wesleyan finished well behind Mountain East Conference rival Wheeling Jesuit as they were ninth with 339 points.

As a team, Wesleyan finished with 440 points.

Concord, the lone other MEC team competing, was 33rd with 869 points.

"We are sort of licking our wounds from the MEC leader Wheeling Jesuit," remarked head coach Jesse Skiles after the event. "We went up against some really good teams today and we battled, but we aren't where we need to be."

Wesleyan will run in a small meet at Salem International on Tuesday, Oct. 11 before competing in the MEC Championships in Bridgeport on Saturday. Oct. 22.
