BRIDGEPORT -- Concord's Jason Weitzel and West Virginia Wesleyan's Sydney Pineault have earned Mountain East Conference Runner of the Week honors for their efforts on the cross country course last week.
Weitzel, a junior from Athens, W.Va., finished fifth among Division II runners at the Paul Short Run on Friday afternoon in Bethlehem, Pa. Weitzel set a school record with a time of 24:46 on the 8,000-meter course, which is also the fastest time in an 8k this season in the MEC. Weitzel helped Concord to a fourth-place finish in the event.
Pineault, a senior from Morgantown, W.Va., turned in an impressive performance at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic over the weekend. Pineault finished the 5,000-meter race with a time of 18:01, which was good for ninth in the "Blue" race and was the second-fastest Division II time at the event.
