Wesleyan senior Sydney Pineault raced with the nation's elite Saturday morning in Evansville, Indiana. In a field of 247 of the nation's best DII distance runners, Pineault raced to a 137th place finish, navigating the 6,000-meter course in 22:55.
Caroline Kurgat of Alaska-Anchorage won the women's individual title. Adams State (Col.) captured the women's team title.
Pineault's finish was the highest female finish in Wesleyan history at the DII nationals. Runners ran on a wet and soft surface on the famous Angel Mounds course in Evansville.
"It was an honor to fulfill my dream of going to nationals and ending my career on Angel Mounds," Pineault said, "I'm so thankful for my teammates who traveled so far to support me, as well as my coaches." "It was great to see Sydney get the opportunity to perform on the national stage;" Head Coach Jesse Skiles said "She has come close several times throughout her career so that made this even more meaningful."
