West Virginia Wesleyan jumped out to a 27-6 halftime lead, and held on for a 37-26 victory over Lincoln on Saturday afternoon.
Adam Neugebauer threw for 345 yards on 32-of-45 passing with four touchdowns. Jon Meadows pulled in 12 passes for 111 yards with a pair of scores. Ottis Scott (pictured) led the way defensively with 10 solo tackles. Jonas Celian added three sacks and a fumble recovery.
Lions quarterback Doug Cook finished the day 28-of-52 for 350 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Matthew Coston hauled in five passes for 138 yards with two scores.
The Bobcats got on the board late in the first quarter with Neugebauer connected with Brandon Hoffman to take an early 7-0. Mason Colton plunged in from a yard out to get the Lions to within one at 7-6 but the extra point was blocked. Neugebauer found Aaron Lewis from 20 yards out in the second to extend the lead to 13-6. John Maddox picked off a Cook pass on the ensuing Lions possession and went 33 yard to extend the WVWC advantage to 20-7. Meadows first touchdown reception just before the half gave the Bobcats a 27-6 advantage going to the half.
Cook hooked up with Coston from 58 yards out on the first drive of the second half to cut the deficit to 27-13. The Bobcats got a Phillip Warner field goal to make it 30-13. Cook and the Lions answered back with a 99 yard drive culminating in Coston?s second score of the day to get within two possessions at 30-20. Neugebauer?s last strike of the day came from eight yards out to Meadows early in the fourth taking the lead to 37-20. Cook added one more touchdown, but Wesleyan was able to come away with the 37-26 win.
The Bobcats are next in action this coming Saturday, October 8th, welcoming Shepherd University to Cebe Ross Field. Kick off is scheduled for 12 p.m.
