BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- West Virginia Wesleyan downed Fairmont State 21-14 on Saturday afternoon in front of a capacity crowd at Ross Field. With the win, the Bobcats increase to 7-0 for the first time in school history, snapping a seven game losing streak to the Falcons.
Adam Neugebauer threw for 308 yards on 26-of-44 passing with one touchdown and a pair of interceptions. Jon Meadows hauled in 8 passes for 125 yards. Keith Dickens added two scores on the ground. Brian Vukela led the way defensively with nine tackles, including three for a loss.
Fairmont State's Daniel Monroe ran for 152 yards on 32 carries and two scores. Nevin Honeycutt was 10-of-24 with 71 yards and two interceptions.
West Virginia Wesleyan outgained FSU 364 yards to 241.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Falcons got on the board early in the second when Monroe plunged in from a yard out. Dickens scored from four yards out to knot the game at 7-7. Monroe again found pay dirt-- this time from five yards out, to put Fairmont State back in front 14-7. Wesleyan answered two plays later when Neugebauer connected with Meadows from 73 yards away to tie the game at 14-14. Dickens' second touchdown gave the Bobcats a 21-14 lead at halftime.
The second half was an offensive struggle, as neither team mounted a serious scoring threat.
Wesleyan travels to conference co-leader Glenville next Saturday at 1 p.m.
