#18 Bobcats Down the Pioneers, 50-37

West Virginia Wesleyan scored 16 unanswered points to start the second half and down Glenville State 50-37 on Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats improve to 8-0 for the first time in school history and 5-0 in the WVIAC.

Adam Neugebauer threw for 370 yards on 33-of-51 passing with five touchdowns and one interception. Jon Meadows pulled down five passes for 77 yards and one score. T.J. Benners hauled in a pair of touchdowns. Corey Williams added 103 yards receiving on three catches and Aaron Lewis caught seven passes for 78 yards with one touchdown.

The Pioneers, Joe Mesadieu, rushed for 176 yards on 26 carries, but only 24 of those yards came in the second half. Darold Hughes was 16-of-33 for 239 yards with one touchdown and a pair of interceptions and added a rushing touchdown. Jordan Griffin pulled down seven passes for 115 yards with a touchdown.

The Pioneers drove down the field but settled for a field goal on their first possession of the game to take a 3-0 lead. GSC would add a second field goal later in the quarter to extend their advantage to 6-0. The Glenville defense forced a fumble on the ensuing Bobcat possession and returned it for a touchdown to make it 13-0. Neugebauer answered finding Benners from 18 yards out to cut the deficit to 13-7. Hughes connected with Griffin from nine yards away for the final tally of the first quarter making it 20-7 Pioneers after one quarter of play.

The Bobcats scored on the first play of the second quarter as Neugebauer found Meadows for a 43 yard touchdown to get the score to 20-14 GSC. Celian picked off a Hughes pass on the ensuing Pioneer possession and rumbled 56 yards for a touchdown to give the Bobcats their first lead at 21-20. Kareem Alexander broke through the Bobcats defense from 44 yards out to put the Pioneers back in front 27-21. Bayless' third field goal extended the lead to 30-21. Benners second touchdown of the half came with just eight seconds on the clock to cut the advantage to 30-27 at the half.

The Pioneers outgained WVWC 327-199 total yards in the first half.

The Bobcats were able to knot the game at 30-30 with a 21-yard field goal from Phillip Warner. The Pioneers fumbled the ensuing kickoff and the Bobcats were able to convert with Neugebauer finding Aaron Lewis in the corner of the endzone to get the Bobcats back on top 37-30 after three quarters.

The Bobcats took their biggest lead of the game with Warner connecting from 39 yards away to make it 40-30 early in the fourth quarter. Warner's third field goal of the game made it 43-30 with just over 11 minutes to play. The Pioneers answered with Hughes plunging in from a yard out to make it 43-37. The Bobcats answered with Neugebauer connecting with Brandon Hoffman in the back of the endzone to push the advantage back to 13 at 50-37 with just over four minutes to play. Felipe Teixeira sealed the win picking off a Hughes pass and the Bobcats were able to run the clock out.

The Bobcats return to Ross Field next Saturday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day against West Virginia State.
